Industry Internships
NDSGC-sponsored industry internships support college students working with local mentors at a STEM-relevant company or laboratory to complete research projects, and to help develop STEM skill sets. Specific qualities that make a good industry partnership include, but are not limited to, real-world STEM experiences, hands-on and experiential learning, diverse perspectives, and an inclusive and equitable environment. These internships do not involve NASA centers and focus on local industries. Students are responsible for securing any travel and/or housing needs related to their internship.
Funding
Students will work directly with research mentors to determine the appropriate time to spend on the project (total weeks, total hours per week). Stipends are unique to each project and will follow the hourly rates as defined at the undergraduate level and graduate levels here:
- Undergraduate Students: $20.50/hr
- Graduate Students: $24.75/hr
Eligibility
The student:
- must be enrolled at an NDSGC Affiliate College or University
- must be a U.S. Citizen
- must be in good academic standing
- is limited to 3 semesters of Industry Internship support by the NDSGC, per degree program
See NDSGC homepage for general eligibility and funding details.
Deadline
Applications are due on the 1st of each month.
How to Apply
Students are encouraged to reach out to the NDSGC if they know which company or laboratory they wish to intern with. Students may talk to the industry partner on their own, but will be required to apply with the NDSGC before solidifying any appointments if they want to be considered for NDSGC funding. We encourage all students to start a conversation with the NDSGC team first and see how we can finalize positions with an industry partner.
If you are employed at a STEM-relevant company and would like to work with a qualified and fully-funded North Dakota student intern, please reach out to the NDSGC team. Please reference the application preview and informational video for more details. Contact the team with questions.
